Pennsylvania College of Technology has honored Carol J. Kafer, associate professor of biology, with an Excellence in Teaching Award. Excellence in Teaching Awards are presented to full-time faculty members who have been nominated by their students and colleagues for excellence in instructional performance.

Robert G. Bowers, retired professor of mathematics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been granted "professor emeritus" status by the college's board of directors. The board voted unanimously Thursday to award the designation to Bowers, who was the 2007 recipient of the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award − the college's highest level of recognition for a faculty member.

The School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies held a camp for 20 ninth- and 10th-grade students June 11-13. Campers were introduced to a variety of engineering technology careers by providing: information on engineering technology careers, hands-on workshops, tours of engineering facilities and an opportunity to network with current Penn College students and faculty.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, in which Pennsylvania College of Technology students and the Salvation Army partnered to aid hundreds of lower-income individuals and families in preparing their returns, helped local residents receive nearly $240,000 in total refunds during the just-concluded 2007 tax year. Nicholas A. Vonada, associate professor of computer science in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Business and Computer Technologies, recently earned a doctorate in adult education and instructional systems from The Pennsylvania State University.

Pennsylvania College of Technology honored two faculty members with Distinguished Teaching Awards at Spring Commencement ceremonies held May 16-17 at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport. The college's highest level of recognition for a faculty member − the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award − was presented to Dr. William B. Urosevich, associate professor of biology/anatomy and physiology.

David A. London, 57, an associate professor of speech communication/composition in the Communication and Literature Department within the School of Integrated Studies at Pennsylvania College of Technology, died Saturday, May 3. London, who was also a former chair of College Council, began his employment with Penn College in January 1990.

Laura M. Dickinson, associate professor of English-composition at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently had a paper published in an online journal. The paper, titled "The Monster in the Jungle: Lost and the 21st Century American Gothic," was published in Lost Online Studies, Volume 2.1.

Fifteen Pennsylvania College of Technology students recently received the requisite security clearance to tour the New York Stock Exchange, an almost-unheard-of consideration amid ongoing and intensive national vigilance. "Ever since 9/11, the New York Stock Exchange has been on heightened alert, and security has increased dramatically," explained Roy A.

David S. Richards, associate professor of physics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Central Pennsylvania Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
