A "Cultural Immersion" trip to Washington, D.C., over Spring Break acquainted Penn College students with the smorgasbord of issues, art, food and ethnicity in the nation's capital.

Career Fairs this week gave Penn College students and alumni invaluable access to more than 180 employers representing nearly 2,100 job and internship opportunities. This semester’s Career Services-sponsored events were from 9 a.m.-noon Monday in the ATHS lobby for health sciences majors; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday in Bardo Gym for all majors; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Ten Penn College representatives traveled to Yonkers, N.Y., over Spring Break to work with Habitat for Humanity to install insulation on three houses that will be used by veterans when completed later this spring. Eight Pennsylvania College of Technology students enrolled in an advanced-level cake decorating course showed off their intricate artistry Thursday, displaying with deserved pride their "Destination Wedding" cakes. Following judging and an exhibition in the Thompson Professional Development Center, the cakes were moved to the college's Madigan Library. Participating students are Samantha-Jo M.

More than 40 architecture students from The Pennsylvania State University traveled to Penn College's Construction Masonry Building on Wednesday, an annual visit that acquaints them with the practical upshot of their designs and reinforces the benefits of masonry as a construction medium.

Switchfoot, a 2011 Grammy Award winner for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album, continued its month-old winter tour with a Thursday gig at Pennsylvania College of Technology. A new Penn College video shares a rare glimpse into “Frank Lloyd Wright’s Samara: A Mid-Century Dream Home,” chronicling the famed architect's give-and-take over the design of an Indiana family's home. The exhibition, which opened in mid-January and runs through March 29 in The Gallery at Penn College, aptly ushers in a yearlong centennial celebration on campus.

John Ratzenberger asked an audience of Penn College students Thursday, quickly proving that celebrity – even for an Oscar-winning box-office king of the 1940 and '50s – lasts about a generation at best.
