Penn College's “Welcome Weekend,” held Saturday and Sunday on main campus, gently and helpfully guided new and returning students toward the start of classes. Student leaders, faculty/staff and alumni – all wearing T-shirts identifying them as the go-to gang to satisfy any last-minute questions – offered a collectively friendly face to the Fall 2014 members of the college community.

Pennsylvania College of Technology held its Summer Commencement ceremony Saturday morning at the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport. Kaitlin M. Savidge, of Northumberland, who received an Associate of Applied Science degree in emergency medical services, was the student speaker for the 11 a.m. event.

Colorful creations by an internationally renowned  3-D pop artist are teamed with artwork by area middle and high school students in “Collective Pop,” an art exhibit celebrating pop art and the 75th anniversary of Little League®. “Collective Pop” opened July 10 in The Gallery at Penn College and continues through Aug. 24 – the final day of the 2014 Little League Baseball® World Series.

A Centennial Gala, bringing together an invited assortment of pivotal players in the institution's growth from homegrown phenomenon to national pacesetter, was held Friday at Penn College. Before a "Pack the Park" audience of 1,914 – appropriate attendance for a Penn College Centennial event – the Williamsport Crosscutters delivered a walk-off 6-5 win over the Batavia Muckdogs on Tuesday night.

The Gallery at Penn College has announced its ninth season of engaging art exhibits for the 2014-15 academic year at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Special exhibitions honoring the 75th  anniversary of Little League Baseball and the 100th anniversary of the college are among the offerings, as well as displays of denim, oil, embroidery, photography and bronze creations.

The "mock" trade show that ended this week's four-and-a-half-day SMART Girls session proved to be the real deal, indeed, offering display after display by young women who showed as much heart as they did skill.

Ned Martin Fiona Powell's recent radio interview with Ned Martin, whose "Before and After" exhibit runs through Sunday, has been posted to WVIA FM’s “ArtScene” web page. Summer hours for the gallery, on the third floor of Madigan Library, are 1-4 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
