A Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member has received one of the highest honors bestowed on pastry chefs: a spot among Dessert Professional Magazine’s Top 10 Pastry Chefs in America. Chef Charles R.

A determined group of Pennsylvania College of Technology students overcame the elements and 100-plus other schools for a strong showing in the marquee event of a renowned international competition. Penn College placed fifth out of 107 teams in the four-hour endurance race at Baja SAE Kansas.

Objects and memories, transience and stability are explored in “Vestiges,” an exhibit of fabric installations on display May 23 through July 23 in The Gallery at Penn College. Through her drawn, screen-printed and stuffed fabric creations, Philadelphia artist Kay Healy explores themes of home, memory, displacement and loss.

Middle schoolers had the run of campus during Career Day on Monday, when they spent the day exploring “degrees that work” in all six of Penn College’s academic schools.

Pennsylvania College of Technology held three commencement ceremonies at the Community Arts Center on May 12-13 for more than 900 students who fulfilled their degree requirements during the spring semester. The proceedings at 3 p.m. Friday featured students from the School of Industrial, Computing & Engineering Technologies and the School of Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communications.

On April 28, 31 students became the first inductees to the Pennsylvania College of Technology Bachelor of Science Nursing Honor Society. Together, the students pledged to fulfill the society’s “commitment to nursing excellence, knowledge, service and leadership” throughout their careers.

Pennsylvania College of Technology announced winners of its Spring Food Show, a showcase of food artistry and expertise by students in the college’s hospitality majors.

A Grand Pastry Buffet was the centerpiece for the college’s annual scholarship reception, which offers an opportunity for recipients of the more than 200 Penn College scholarships to mingle with and thank those who have funded the scholarships. The event, held Sunday, is the final project for students in the Pastry Food Show and Buffet Presentation Concepts course.

The pencil points the way to designs aplenty. Book jackets (on the display stand) and skateboard branding and illustrations (on the wall) by Todd R. Surkovich offer intricate details. Guests listen to a brief introduction by Thomas C. Heffner, assistant dean of sciences, humanities and visual communications. The 17 celebrated graphic designers pose for a group photo in the gallery.

World-class chefs spent several days on the Penn College campus to impart their wisdom while they guided students in the production of the 25th Anniversary Visiting Chef Dinner, held April 7.
