Sharon G. Auker has been appointed director of nursing at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Auker, an associate professor of medical/surgical nursing at the college, will assume her new duties on Jan. 12. As a full-time faculty member in Penn College's nursing program for 12 years, Auker has taught bachelor- and associate-level nursing courses.

Jane J. Benedict, associate professor of nursing at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently reappointed to a second term on the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission's evaluation review panel. Benedict's second consecutive three-year term on the evaluation review panel will begin Jan. 1. The NLNAC is recognized by the U.S.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's nursing program has received continued grant funding from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation and Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania to help students pay for college expenses. The nursing program was awarded $117,000 from PHEF for the 2008-09 academic year.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Health Sciences recently held two summer camps for high school students interested in exploring a career in a health-care profession: the second annual EMT/Paramedic Camp on June 6-8 and the eighth annual Health Careers Camp from June 11-13.

Tiffany Deihm of Mohnton, a graduate of Twin Valley High School, has been named Penn College's "Student-Athlete of the Week" for April 7-13. Deihm, a freshman pre-nursing student, has excelled on the mound for the Lady Wildcats women's softball team, posting a 4-0 record with 28 strikeouts in 24 innings of work and a 2.08 earned run average.

A local women's motorcycle club, under the leadership of a Pennsylvania College of Technology nursing student, has contributed to a growing scholarship fund that memorializes a nursing student who died of cancer earlier this year. Feminengines, a group that was established in 2003 to raise funds for Susan G.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Nurses' Association recently received an award for Outstanding Web Site at the Student Nurses' Association of Pennsylvania's 55th annual convention. When conferring the award at the convention, held in Scranton Nov. 14-17, officials noted some of the site's best features include its timely posting of meeting minutes and news.

Penn College nursing, paramedic and physician assistant students volunteered to staff free flu clinics offered throughout Lycoming County last week, during which 466 influenza and 39 pneumonia vaccinations were given to county residents. The three-day initiative is a project of the Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition and the State Health Improvement Plan.

Students enrolled in the School of Health Sciences at Pennsylvania College of Technology will partner with state and local organizations to administer free flu shots throughout Lycoming County in November. Nursing, paramedic and physician assistant students will administer flu and pneumococcal vaccine and will distribute educational materials regarding the immunizations at seven sites.
