Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Nurses' Association recently received an award for Outstanding Web Site at the Student Nurses' Association of Pennsylvania's 55th annual convention. When conferring the award at the convention, held in Scranton Nov. 14-17, officials noted some of the site's best features include its timely posting of meeting minutes and news.
Penn College nursing, paramedic and physician assistant students volunteered to staff free flu clinics offered throughout Lycoming County last week, during which 466 influenza and 39 pneumonia vaccinations were given to county residents. The three-day initiative is a project of the Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition and the State Health Improvement Plan.
Students enrolled in the School of Health Sciences at Pennsylvania College of Technology will partner with state and local organizations to administer free flu shots throughout Lycoming County in November. Nursing, paramedic and physician assistant students will administer flu and pneumococcal vaccine and will distribute educational materials regarding the immunizations at seven sites.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year will be memorialized through a new scholarship fund to benefit nursing students at Penn College. The Danielle M. Young Memorial Scholarship will generate an annual award of $500 to a student enrolled full time in Penn College's associate- or bachelor-degree nursing majors.
Three Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty members have earned the designation of Certified Nurse Educator after successfully completing a rigorous certification examination developed and administered by the New York City-based National League for Nursing. Jane J. Benedict, Linda L. Crayton and Pam B. Schappert, all associate professors of nursing, earned the certification.
Penn College will host a site review for continuing accreditation of its LPN, RN and baccalaureate nursing majors by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. A meeting will be held at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Tiadaghton Room of the Thompson Professional Development Center. The Student Nurses' Association was among the exhibitors at Sunday's "Clearly Kids Expo" at the YMCA Pickelner Arena. The group's colorful and well-attended booth focused on healthy eating habits for children and increased activity to promote a healthy lifestyle.
