Faculty and staff in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s School of Health Sciences recently established an endowed scholarship fund to benefit students in the school.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has been awarded a $570,422 federal grant for 2012-13 in support of a variety of academic programs. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Perkins Local Plan Grant seeks to help develop the skills of secondary and postsecondary education students enrolled in career and technical-education programs.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s School of Health Sciences hosted 36 high school students June 13-14 to help them learn about a variety of health careers. The Health Careers Camp, open to students entering grades nine to 12, offered hands-on workshops and the ability to network with Penn College students and faculty and working professionals in the health-care industry.

Camille S. Koroma, a pre-nursing major from Reading, has been chosen as the December/January "Student of the Month" by the Student Government Association at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Pennsylvania College of Technology presented Brian M. Webster with an Alumni Humanitarian/Citizenship Award during a Winter Commencement ceremony at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport.

A recent nursing graduate from Pennsylvania College of Technology was awarded a scholarship from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Nursing Foundation of Pennsylvania, which administers the Jack E. Barger Sr. Scholarship on behalf of the VFW, recently announced six recipients of the scholarship for 2011, including Travis M.

A faculty member in the nursing program at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently received a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Chatham University. Dottie M. Mathers, associate professor of medical-surgical nursing, focused her doctoral studies on improving outcomes for patients with central venous access devices. Mathers has been a faculty member at Penn College since 1991.

Dina L. Wilson, associate professor of nursing programs at Pennsylvania College of Technology, passed the National League for Nursing Certification Exam for Certified Nurse Educator in December. The CNE is deemed a mark of professionalism by the National League for Nursing.

Pennsylvania College of Technology received funding to offer tuition scholarships to disadvantaged students pursuing practical nursing certificates. The $6,521 grant was provided by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation Inc. as part of its LPN Student Assistance Program.
