Dottie Mathers, a retired critical care nurse and professor of nursing at Penn College for nearly 30 years, was celebrating 49 ½ years of marriage with her husband, Dan, when things took an unexpected turn at a Pittsburgh dining establishment.

Approximately 30 guests attended the annual gala of Penn College’s Student Nurses’ Association. The event featured a catered meal, raffle baskets and bingo.

Approximately 30 children attended Breakfast with Santa, a holiday benefit held in Penn’s Inn on Dec. 13. Families were invited to don their best Christmas sweaters and gather for a festive breakfast in support of a meaningful cause.

Pennsylvania College of Technology nursing instructor Gina L. Bross recently completed a doctorate in nursing from Widener University. Bross’ dissertation explored “The Effect of Constructive Criticism as Feedback on the Perceived Clinical Self-Efficacy of Baccalaureate Nursing Students.”

Pennsylvania College of Technology recently presented DAISY Awards for Extraordinary Nursing to Nadine R. Lipinski, a student from Muncy, and Sherry L. Hyland, assistant professor of nursing.

Pennsylvania College of Technology nursing students promoted community health through a series of Donate Life events, designed to educate the community about organ donation and encourage individuals to register as donors. They joined student groups from 11 other colleges in the Gift of Life College Challenge, and it was announced in June that Penn College’s students finished in second place for their efforts and registered 265 people to become organ donors – the most of any college in the challenge.

Can you survive a month in poverty? That was the key question at a recent Community Action Poverty Simulation explored by Penn College students in various majors in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences and School of Business, Arts & Sciences. Poverty simulations have been held at the college since Spring 2019, but the Spring 2025 event was the first to cast a wider net of cross-curricular collaboration.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has received approval from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing to expand its Workforce Development practical nursing program, originally based at Penn College’s Wellsboro campus, to the college’s main campus in Williamsport. This strategic move aims to enhance access to quality nursing education and address the nursing shortage at both state and national levels.

A unique anatomy competition, hosted recently by Pennsylvania College of Technology, connected students from 12 Pennsylvania high schools with future health career opportunities as they proved their knowledge in a gaming-style contest. Wellsboro Area High School took first place in the inaugural Penn College Anatomage Regional Tournament.

WNEP-TV reported on today’s Penn College Regional Anatomage Tournament, which brought 20 teams from 12 Pennsylvania high schools to campus to test their anatomy skills. The local ABC affiliate interviewed the college’s Elizabeth S. Gizenski, director of surgical technology, as well as an Anatomage representative and a student from Benton High School.
