On the heels of a packed SMART Girls (Science and Math Applications in Real-World Technologies for Girls) session for seventh- and eighth-graders at Pennsylvania College of Technology in April, girls entering ninth and 10th grades may register for a three-night, three-day July SMART Girls event.

This year's Penn College-United Way Trash-to-Treasure event was a "sparkling success," in more ways than one. The one-day rummage sale, some say the largest in the area, raised over $2,500 for the Lycoming County United Way and more than 600 pounds of food for the American Rescue Workers. All of the unsold items also were donated to the American Rescue Workers.

Friday evening's "Basket Ballyhoo," a book-themed benefit auction held in the Professional Development Center, raised nearly $5,000 for the Roger and Peggy Madigan Library. "I'm very pleased to announce that we made $4,858," said Margaret A.

PGA Tour member J.J. Henry will be the visiting pro at the 20th Annual Golf Classic, to be hosted by the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation on May 8 at the Williamsport Country Club. Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship.

Tuesday's rain didn't dampen the sixth annual "Villapalooza," as about 150 students attended the event organized by Village Resident Assistants Amanda Miller, Rachel Hall, Marisa Labosky, Sarah Landis, Adam Sillaman, Doug Bloom and Spyke Krepshaw.

Author Lindsay Barrett George read her book, "Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse," to the children of the Children's Learning Center at Penn College on Tuesday morning in the Professional Development Center.

Retired Air Force Col. Timothy D. Bair was at the Lumley Aviation Center on April 20 to present results of the Space Shuttle Columbia accident investigation. Bair was a member of the Columbia Accident Investigation Board as an investigator from February to August 2002.

Penn College held a reception for its much-appreciated donors Tuesday night, celebrating benefactors' funding of state-of-the-art equipment, scholarships and building projects so vital to students' education.

Chef Michael J. Ditchfield, instructor of food and hospitality management/culinary arts in Penn College's School of Hospitality, was the spring semester's final speaker in Student Activities' "My Last Words" series Tuesday night.
