Pennsylvania College of Technology is taking the lead in a National Science Foundation project aimed at enhancing plastics technology education.

With a keen eye on the horizon, Pennsylvania College of Technology's aviation technology programming has added certification by Transport Canada to its educational roster. Transport Canada is the Canadian equivalent to the Federal Aviation Administration; Penn College's curriculum already is approved by the FAA.

The welding department at Pennsylvania College of Technology is now accredited by the American Welding Society as a National Testing Facility for welders. The department has met all of the society's requirements for Accreditation of Test Facilities for a Certified Welder Program. "The tests, of course, are a necessary qualification for almost anyone seeking employment," explained Dr.

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology has accredited Pennsylvania College of Technology's plastics and polymer engineering technology and surveying technology majors. ABET's Technology Accreditation Commission, responsible for engineering technology programs, performed the accreditation function.

Mack Trucks Inc. and Pennsylvania College of Technology have formed an alliance to offer an associate degree in diesel technology, with an emphasis on Mack components. The degree program is the only one of its kind in the nation involving an integrated heavy-duty truck manufacturer and an accredited college. It is slated to begin in Fall 1997.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has received $100,000 through the Caterpillar Excellence Fund, a partnership among the Caterpillar Foundation, participating dealers and schools. There are only three other regional partnerships in the country that were funded at that maximum amount. The Caterpillar Foundation contributed $50,000 and three dealers collectively matched the amount.

Thanks to some local partnering, a Milton company is now better positioned to compete in the national marketplace. Through a partnership funded by the Northeast Tier Ben Franklin Technology Center, Clark Technology Systems Inc. and Pennsylvania College of Technology's Plastics Manufacturing Center have collaborated to create a new and unique industrial raft system.

An A-6E Intruder aircraft has been awarded to Pennsylvania College of Technology by the federal government. Valued at nearly $20.9 million, the Navy aircraft and its accompanying training aids is the single largest gift in the College's history.
