Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball and softball teams are seeded Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in their divisions for the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships that get under way Wednesday at Bowman Field and Elm Park in Williamsport.

Seniors on the men's baseball, women's softball and archery teams were honored over the weekend. in the Athletics Department's continuing efforts to recognize graduating members of Penn College's 15 varsity sports.

A team of Penn College faculty and staff defeated its student counterparts 14-13 Friday in the annual campus softball rivalry. Lisa Worth, athletic assistant, provided this game recap: The student team scored six runs in the first inning and three runs in the third to take a 9-4 lead.

Last November, Jeffrey J.Faherty, a sophomore at Pennsylvania College of Technology, ran his first marathon ever in Harrisburg . Today, he's savoring the moment of running in and completing the Boston Marathon. Faherty covered the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 22 minutes April 21. "It was incredible," Faherty said of the experience.

Both sides played well in Wednesday's Staff/Faculty vs. Students volleyball match, according to Jeremy R. Bottorf, intramural/Fitness Center assistant, who said the night produced lots of great volleys between the two teams.

Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball and softball championships are scheduled to be played in Williamsport next week. On Wednesday, baseball games are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1, 3 and 8 p.m. at Bowman Field. Softball play gets under way that same day with games at 5 and 7 p.m. at Elm Park. Four teams will compete in each sport in the double-elimination tournaments.

This weekend, members of the Pennsylvania College of Technology archery team get their final tune-up prior to next month's season-ending nationals, and it will come on their home turf. Tiffany Deihm of Mohnton, a graduate of Twin Valley High School, has been named Penn College's "Student-Athlete of the Week" for April 7-13. Deihm, a freshman pre-nursing student, has excelled on the mound for the Lady Wildcats women's softball team, posting a 4-0 record with 28 strikeouts in 24 innings of work and a 2.08 earned run average.
