It was "mission accomplished" for the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team Thursday in the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships, but the college's softball team fell just short of its goal. In baseball, the Wildcats of coach Chris Howard edged rival Penn State Beaver, 3-1, at Bowman Field in Williamsport to reclaim the conference crown they last won in 2006.

Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball and softball teams are seeded Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in their divisions for the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships that get under way Wednesday at Bowman Field and Elm Park in Williamsport.

Last November, Jeffrey J.Faherty, a sophomore at Pennsylvania College of Technology, ran his first marathon ever in Harrisburg . Today, he's savoring the moment of running in and completing the Boston Marathon. Faherty covered the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 22 minutes April 21. "It was incredible," Faherty said of the experience.

Both sides played well in Wednesday's Staff/Faculty vs. Students volleyball match, according to Jeremy R. Bottorf, intramural/Fitness Center assistant, who said the night produced lots of great volleys between the two teams.

Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball and softball championships are scheduled to be played in Williamsport next week. On Wednesday, baseball games are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1, 3 and 8 p.m. at Bowman Field. Softball play gets under way that same day with games at 5 and 7 p.m. at Elm Park. Four teams will compete in each sport in the double-elimination tournaments.

This weekend, members of the Pennsylvania College of Technology archery team get their final tune-up prior to next month's season-ending nationals, and it will come on their home turf. The Wildcats host the Eastern Regional Intercollegiate Championships Saturday and Sunday on campus, just outside the Field House along College Avenue. Women in Sports Day was observed Sunday in Penn's Inn, where more than 70 current female athletes, recruits, coaches and special guests celebrated women's sports at Penn College and honored this year's theme of "All In." Featured speaker Alison Tagliaferri, Wildcat women's basketball coach, talked about Title IX and the women who have had the most influence in her life.

Tiffany Deihm of Mohnton, a graduate of Twin Valley High School, has been named Penn College's "Student-Athlete of the Week" for April 7-13. Deihm, a freshman pre-nursing student, has excelled on the mound for the Lady Wildcats women's softball team, posting a 4-0 record with 28 strikeouts in 24 innings of work and a 2.08 earned run average.
