Faculty and students from Pennsylvania College of Technology's automotive restoration major are traveling with one of America's most historically significant vehicles on a “dream come true” journey to the Super Bowl of car shows: the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California.

Pennsylvania College of Technology once again helped to welcome visitors to Williamsport for the Little League Baseball World Series, which begins Thursday and concludes Aug. 26. Prior to formation of the Grand Slam Parade near the northwest corner of campus, the college hosted its traditional picnic for players, coaches, team uncles, umpires and other LLBWS notables.

A makerspace, providing a fertile environment for innovation and imagination – and the tools with which students can turn visions into reality – was dedicated in Penn College's Carl Building Technologies Center on Tuesday. The student-designed Dr. Welch Workshop memorializes Dr. Marshall Welch Jr., a local orthodontist and longtime philanthropist, who died in 2012.

Offering an opportunity to encounter and understand mental health through the lens of contemporary craft, the first exhibition of The Gallery at Penn College’s 13th season opens Aug. 13 and runs through Oct. 11.

Penn College’s brewing and fermentation science major was again featured at Saturday's Billtown Brewfest in Pine Square, organized by the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau and the Brickyard Restaurant & Ale House in celebration of craft beers.

The Gallery at Penn College is celebrating its 13th season with a dynamic roster of programming showcasing a range of artistic mediums addressing diverse social topics, including mental health, human rights, consumerism and compassion. “The new season offers a series of thought-provoking exhibitions that tackle social justice and human rights issues,” said Penny Griffin Lutz, gallery director.

For the third time in its history, Penn College hosted the annual conference of the North American Council of Automotive Teachers. Returning to the 1998 and 2008 site of their organization's official get-together, more than 200 NACAT members from across the United States and Canada convened for the July 16-19 event.

A National Endowment for the Arts grant of $10,000 will support public programming offered by The Gallery at Penn College as part of its upcoming exhibition, “Mindful: Exploring Mental Health Through Art.” The Challenge America grant is awarded by the NEA to support projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations – those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited
