A student enrolled in Pennsylvania College of Technology's plastics and polymer engineering technology major was chosen to receive the John Manson Memorial Student Research Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers Lehigh Valley Section. Lehigh Valley SPE member Les Sperling presented the $1,000 award to Penn College senior Sean M. Stabler, Montoursville, during the section's January meeting.

C. Hank White, director of the Plastics Manufacturing Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology, conducted a workshop recently to introduce the availability in the marketplace of Nylene 494, a new nylon polymer for rotational molding. The workshop was part of the joint meeting of the Association of Rotational Molders and the Society of Plastics Engineers in Chicago.

For the first time in its 14-year history, the Plastics Manufacturing Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology has introduced a new commercially available material. The material was developed in partnership with Custom Resins, a Henderson, Ky., resin manufacturer. The new material, called Nylene 494, is a variant of nylon suitable for rotational molding.

Pennsylvania College of Technology will take its mobile plastics lab to Central Mountain High School, Mill Hall, from Dec. 2-22, offering students a unique opportunity to experience the ever-growing plastics industry. The lab includes four units, all assembled by Penn College plastics and polymer engineering technology students.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Plastics Mobile Lab was requested by K&W Medical Specialties to assist with the Northern Tier (Tioga County) Youth Leadership Program, as well as to provide demonstrations for employees of the company. K&W employs a staff of more than 180, which includes several Penn College graduates.

A Lycoming County firm has donated a plastics processing machine for use in Pennsylvania College of Technology's plastics and polymer engineering technology labs and the college's Plastics Manufacturing Center. Koroseal Wall Protection Systems of Muncy recently donated an up-acting, 75-ton hydraulic/pneumatic compression machine.

Keith L. Jeffcoat, a 2001 graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology's plastics and polymer engineering technology program, returned to campus on Wednesday to share insight with current students.

A world leader in injection-molding technology is donating a valuable piece of equipment to the plastics and polymer engineering technology program at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Nissei America Inc., based in Anaheim, Calif., recently announced the donation of a model ES3000-25E all-electric molding machine to Penn College.

William A. Rutkowski, a junior at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was named the first recipient of the Brian E. Liles Memorial Scholarship. Rutkowski, Dickson City, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology.

Adam C. Barilla, a sophomore in the plastics and polymer engineering technology major at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was named the recipient of the Frazier Family Scholarship for Fall 2005. Barilla, of Strong, carries a 3.91 grade-point average and is a member of Penn College's student chapter of the Society of Plastics Engineers.
