This week (Sept. 22-29), Penn College participates in "The Clothesline Project Bearing Witness to Violence Against Women." This is a campuswide anti-violence campaign sponsored by the Madigan Library and Student Health Services. Come to the library and CC lobby to see T-shirts with messages and declarations of hope and survival.

In honor of Constitution Day, the Madigan Library sponsored The Hall of Flags, an educational display of "Old Glory" from early America to the present. The historical exhibit was presented by members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1057, Jersey Shore: Craig R. Packard, the Elks' district deputy grand exalted ruler, who provided the history lesson, and Theodore J.

Actor Michael Keaton − best known for his rolesin "Beetlejuice" and the two Tim Burton-directed "Batman" movies − and two Williamsport residents will be among the recipients of the Governor's Awards for the Arts, announced at the Community Arts Center on Tuesday by Judge Marjorie O. Rendell, first lady of Pennsylvania. The arts center will be the venue for the Nov.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "New Paintings," a collection of works by Judith Kalina, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 16. Kalina lives and works in New York City.

Fall Open House at Pennsylvania College of Technology − a special mission affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University − will be held Sunday, Oct. 26, providing opportunities for prospective students, their families and friends to learn more about the college, its academic programs and facilities. The event will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An educational display of American flags, tracing the progression from mere banner to majestic national symbol, is among the Constitution Week events scheduled at Pennsylvania College of Technology from Sept. 15-19. The historical "Hall of Flags" will be presented by members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1057, Jersey Shore, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The School of Health Sciences and Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology will sponsor a health literacy workshop on Oct. 3. The workshop, titled "What It Is, Why It Matters, How You Can Help," will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in Penn's Inn on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center.

Alcohol Awareness Week events on campus are driving home the staggering consequences of impairment. "True Stories: After the Crash," held Tuesday night in the SASC, offered personal accounts of alcohol's life-altering effects, a message that was reinforced duringWednesday's Awareness Fair on the PDC lawn.

Locally owned restaurants brought their wares to Penn College on Tuesday afternoon, tempting students and faculty/staff with "Tastes of Williamsport" from their kitchens. Gathered outside the Susquehanna Room, the eateries distributed menus and low-priced samples to an estimated 225-300 customers. The first-ever event was sponsored by Community Assistants, Student Activities and Food Services.

The Cultural Life Committee encourages the Penn College community to observe National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15). In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson obtained authorization from Congress to proclaim a week in September as National Hispanic Heritage Week.
