The four-member executive board of Penn College's Student Government Association joined about 600 students from more than 100 schools at last week's 2008 National Student Government Conference in Bethesda, Md. "This conference was such an awesome experience," SGA President Brian D. Walton said.
Penn College students may claim a free ticket for Williamsport Symphony Orchestra concerts by stopping at the Community Arts Center box office with their student ID. The opening concert, "Passion for the Slavic Soul,"is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Arts Center. Subsequent concerts this semester are Saturday, Nov. 15, and Tuesday, Dec. 9.
"Show Your Colors" is the theme for this year's Homecoming celebration at Pennsylvania College of Technology; a variety of activities from a comedian and a car show to athletic events and networking receptions are scheduled from Oct. 8-12. The public is invited to a number of Homecoming events: a flag football game at 9 p.m. Oct. 8 on the Athletic Field; a women's volleyball game at 7 p.m. Oct.
"Not for Sale," a lecture calling for an end to the international tragedy of human trafficking, will be held Thursday, Oct. 2, on the main campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport. Sponsored by the college's Cultural Life Committee, a partnership to promote and recognize diversity and social justice, the program will be held at 7 p.m.
The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of the college's Madigan Library, is hosting "New Paintings," a collection of works by Judith Kalina, through Oct. 16. An opening reception for the exhibit with a talk by the artist was held Tuesday evening in the gallery, preceded by a lecture in the SASC Presentation Room. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2-8 p.m.
A variety of fun activities entertained attendees of Penn College's Parent and Family Weekend, which attracted more than 400 families. Participants interacted with more than 20 faculty, deans and administration during a dessert reception in The Gallery at Penn College, and more than 300 students and their families enjoyed trolley rides through historic Williamsport on Saturday.
This year's homecoming at Penn College will be held Oct. 8-12, and is going to be bigger and better than ever. New events for this year include a bread and pastry sale, a concert featuring The States, and a carnival. For a complete list of events and details, please visit online.
This week (Sept. 22-29), Penn College participates in "The Clothesline Project Bearing Witness to Violence Against Women." This is a campuswide anti-violence campaign sponsored by the Madigan Library and Student Health Services. Come to the library and CC lobby to see T-shirts with messages and declarations of hope and survival.
In honor of Constitution Day, the Madigan Library sponsored The Hall of Flags, an educational display of "Old Glory" from early America to the present. The historical exhibit was presented by members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1057, Jersey Shore: Craig R. Packard, the Elks' district deputy grand exalted ruler, who provided the history lesson, and Theodore J.
Actor Michael Keaton − best known for his rolesin "Beetlejuice" and the two Tim Burton-directed "Batman" movies − and two Williamsport residents will be among the recipients of the Governor's Awards for the Arts, announced at the Community Arts Center on Tuesday by Judge Marjorie O. Rendell, first lady of Pennsylvania. The arts center will be the venue for the Nov.
