The first meeting of the Marcellus Shale Industry Partnership, formed to address the natural-gas industry's workforce needs in conjunction with the exploration of potential gas reserves within the region's Marcellus Shale formation, was held Monday on Pennsylvania College of Technology's main campus.
The Gallery at Penn College will offer a free, hands-on printmaking demonstration from 1:30-3 p.m. Friday in conjunction with the exhibit, "60x60: Small Prints from Purdue University Galleries." A student assistant will demonstrate the technique of relief printing and offer attendees the opportunity to make a print from a woodcut block that has been pre-carved.

A free workshop to help families and counselors understand how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be offered Saturday, Feb. 14, at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m. in Room 1049 of the Student and Administrative Services Center.
Two dozen students from area high schools and vocational-technical institutions were on the Penn College campus for regional SkillsUSA competition Friday, hoping to earn a spot in the state contest April 1-3 (and, ultimately, in the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo., from June 22-26).
The Student Government Association, along with the Student Activities and Residence Life offices, sponsored speaker Tim Wise on Wednesday night in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium. Wise gave a lecture about "White Privilege and Dismantling Racism," covering such issues as historical scars for people of color, struggles, racial advantages for whites and racial profiling.
The American Red Cross was "extremely pleased" with the turnout for Wednesday's Bloodmobile at the Bush Campus Center, where 169 pints were collected 96 percent of the 175-pint goal. Of note also is that 37 first-time donors reached out to help others.
An opening reception was held Tuesday evening for "60x60: Small Prints From Purdue University Galleries," the current exhibit on the third floor of Madigan Library. All of the images in the traveling exhibit, on display through Feb. 3 in The Gallery at Penn College, are no larger than 60 square inches. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; 2-8 p.m.
Faculty/staff and students filled Penn's Inn during Tuesday's inauguration of President Barack Obama, as NBC's televised coverage was beamed onto the room's large projection screen. Extra chairs were set up to accommodate the large crowd at the event, which was coordinated by Student Activities and included light refreshments.
Penn College was represented in Monday's events to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Damon Anderson, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lycoming County, spoke to students, faculty and staff about the civil-rights leader's life during a breakfast in the PDC Mountain Laurel Room.
