"Beauty, Vulnerability and Inevitability," a collection of paintings by Ed Wong-Ligda, officially opened Tuesday evening in The Gallery at Penn College, where the exhibit will remain through March 6. An opening reception took place on the third floor of The Madigan Library, preceded by an artist's lecture in the Student and Administrative Services Center and followed by a talk in the gallery.

This year's Walk-It-Out slogan says it all: "On our way to $10K." The planning committee is setting its goal high and needs your help. Registration is open for Walk-It-Out 2009, Penn College's walk-a-thon for the American Cancer Society, to be held from noon-6 p.m. Saturday, April 25, on the Madigan Library lawn.

"Introduction to Steel-Joist Products," a free presentation by a civil engineer, will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium. The presenter will be Kevin W. Smith, engineering manager of CMC Joist and Deck, New Columbia, a division of Commercial Metals Co.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Beauty, Vulnerability and Inevitability," a collection of paintings by Ed Wong-Ligda, from Feb. 10 to March 6. This exhibit comprises three separate but related bodies of work that examine beauty, vulnerability and the inevitability of change.

A concert scheduled for Feb. 15 in The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, has been postponed. Because of a hand injury suffered by classical guitarist and Penn College alumnus Alphonse Ciaccio, the concert he was to perform will be postponed until fall.

Pennsylvania College of Technology will host a renowned Washington, D.C., chef and restaurateur in February as part of its Visiting Chef Series. The series invites accomplished chefs to the college's campus to mentor and work alongside students in the college's School of Hospitality over several days, culminating in the elaborate Visiting Chef dinner to benefit scholarship funds.

On Thursday, April 16, the Cisco Networking Academy at Penn College will host the Cisco Systems Network On Wheels. The Cisco NOW is a 25-foot van equipped with the latest Cisco networking technologies. This unique showcase provides hands-on demonstrations of proven integrated networking solutions that are customizable to any business size and needs.

In a lecture at Pennsylvania College of Technology on Feb. 9, a renowned Maya archaeologist will discuss the Maya calendar and the notion that the ancient civilization predicted the end of time. The lecture, titled "December 23, 2012: The End of Maya Time?" will be offered free to the public at 7 p.m.

The first meeting of the Marcellus Shale Industry Partnership, formed to address the natural-gas industry's workforce needs in conjunction with the exploration of potential gas reserves within the region's Marcellus Shale formation, was held Monday on Pennsylvania College of Technology's main campus.
