The annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work observance brought 15 young women and men to Penn College campuses for a variety of activities Thursday.

Prospective enrollees in Penn College's legal assistant/paralegal majors visited Thursday for an informative overview of the program. Participants explored academics and real-world applications with faculty and other School of Business and Computer Technologies principals; toured main campus with admissions representative Brian D. Walton and Bradley M.

Cows grazed the Madigan Library lawn Wednesday, part of a fundraising effort for the Tracy A. Garis Memorial Scholarship. In a form of bovine bingo, the three cows meandered the playing card (a fenced-in area of the field) until each of them "plopped" into a square. Penn College's Student Government Association sold chances on each square, with the three lucky winners collecting cash prizes.

From April 29 to May 13, The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Design: 2011," a portfolio exhibition by seniors in the college's graphic design major. A culminating project of their college curriculum, the students' annual exhibition will feature posters, books, magazine spreads and logos.

With graduation and prom season just around the corner, the Bush Campus Center hosted a Fictitious Identification Training Session on Monday afternoon to give bartenders, bouncers and other licensees added pointers on fighting underage drinking.

On one of the first garden-friendly days of the season, horticulture instructor Carl J. Bower provided a helpful primer on invasive plants and how to discern whether to nurture or nix that beautiful backyard growth. " Plants: Friend or Foe?" was the Spring 2011 Madigan Library Forum, held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday in the second-floor reading loft.

Runners braved the wind and rain to participate in the second School of Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship 5K Walk/Run on April 16. The 5K is organized by faculty and staff in the School of Health Sciences, the college's largest school, to build the fund, which will be permanently endowed when it reaches $25,000.

Plastic-based products manufacturers gathered at Pennsylvania College of Technology on March 17 to learn more about plastics recycling and manufacturing in Pennsylvania. The Recycling Seminar was presented by Plastics SourceNet and Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center Inc.

The Chess Club, one of Penn College's newest student organizations, held its first-ever tournament Saturday in the Bush Campus Center. Ten players competed through five rounds of chess. When the last round was finished at 3 p.m., the tournament had three champions: Solomon Francis, Open Division; Rob Schlenker, Student Division; and Zach Geffre, 16-and-Under Division.

Fine dining and generous goodwill were on the menu at Le Jeune Chef Restaurant on April 12, as a complement of Pennsylvania College of Technology "celebrity servers" worked the dining room for donations to the Tracy A.
