Richard Sahn, instructor of sociology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently presented a paper, “The Problem with Horatio Alger Socialization: Why Students From Working-Class Families Identify With the 1 Percent,” at a professional conference. The presentation was made at the annual conference of the Pennsylvania Sociological Society on Oct. 13 at Penn State Schuylkill.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s School of Hospitality will host “An Evening of Pennsylvania Food, Beer and Wine” on Nov. 14, offering opportunities to learn more about the pairing of fine beer and wine with food and to benefit the Peter Hellermann Scholarship Fund. Scheduled at 6:30 p.m.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Children’s Learning Center received continued funding to help provide child-care access to parents pursuing higher education at the college. Generally referred to as a “CCAMPIS” grant, which stands for “Child Care Access Means Parents in School,” the funding comes from the U.S.

Pennsylvania College of Technology was one of three runners-up in a national contest to find the best automotive technician training school in the country. WIX Filters and O'Reilly Auto Parts partnered with Tomorrow's Technician magazine as title sponsors for the competition, which was won by Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, Wash.

The Penn College men’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams paid tribute to their graduating members Saturday at the teams’ final regular-season home matches.

Pennsylvania College of Technology sports fans had plenty to cheer about over the weekend as the men’s cross-country team and coed tennis teams claimed Penn State University Athletic Conference championships, the men’s soccer team gave coach Enrique Castillo his 100th career win in just seven seasons, and the women’s volleyball squad won a pair of matches.

Penn College faculty – many joined by their students – offered close to 50 hands-on workshops, demonstrations and tours to high schoolers who visited campus Friday for Career Day. The event is facilitated twice a year,  in October for students in grades 9-12 and in May for students in grades 7-9, by the college’s Outreach for K-12 Office.

Tuesday's Career Fair provided Penn College students and alumni the opportunity to meet hundreds of prospective employers – including Fortune 500 companies –  recruiting for 2,244 full-time jobs, internships and other positions.
