(The following is drawn from remarks by Davie Jane Gilmour, Pennsylvania College of Technology president, during an Aug. 12 all-college meeting tobegin the 2010-11 academic year.) August 2010. As always, it is difficult to imagine that the summer has concluded and we once again gather to launch a new academic year.

The One College Club, a benefit to Pennsylvania College of Technology employees, alumni and retirees, opens Aug. 17 in Le Jeune Chef Restaurant. The club, in a dedicated area at the rear of the restaurant, will feature relaxed dining with its own "gastro-pub" menu, as well as a buffet.

A group of electronics and computer engineering technology students in a 300-level Control Theory class taught by Scott D. Neuhard, assistant professor of electronics, presented class projects at Penn College's Spring Open House, showing off their skills and ingenuity for prospective students and their families.

PCToday continues its regular feature: welcoming new full-time and regular part-time Pennsylvania College of Technology employees, as reported by the Human Resources Office. Among the latest additions, all effective Aug.

In a dual celebration two years in the making, a ribbon-cutting for Penn College's new plastics wing and the christening of the Thermoforming Center of Excellence  were held April 6-7 in the Breuder Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Center.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented student achievement awards to its August 2010 graduates. A Summer Commencement ceremony was held Aug. 7 at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport. The award winners, their hometowns and academic majors are: President's Award, presented for leadership and service to the college: Larissa Dawn Kryder, Jersey Shore, physician assistant.

Synthes, a global medical-device company that has supported Pennsylvania College of Technology by donating instructional equipment and hiring numerous graduates of its automated manufacturing and machining program, is the 2010 recipient of the college's Mentorship Award.

Pennsylvania College of Technology conducted its Summer Commencement ceremony Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport. Tammy M. Bergquist, of Montoursville, awarded an associate degree in radiography, was the day's student speaker. The Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors on Thursday approved parameters for the college's 2011-12 state budget request and authorized the college administration to enter into contracts for construction of the college's new masonry facility.

At Pennsylvania College of Technology, which will open a new residence hall this fall, students who commute to class still represent the largest percentage of enrollees. Helping those students get the most out of their college experience remains a top priority for the institution.
