An open discussion about the recent increase in suicides among gay students will be held at Pennsylvania College of Technology in conjunction with National Coming Out Day on Monday, Oct. 11. With a message of "Stop the Violence, End the Silence!

An inch might as well be a mile and second place might as well be last. That is the competitive spirit that Pennsylvania College of Technology archer Danny Wido, of Shickshinny, brings to the game.

Freshman Chris Brennan, of New Hope, was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association's "Co-Player of the Week" for the period ending Oct. 3. Brennan who graduated from New Hope/Solebury High School compiled an impressive week, with five goals and one assist, to help lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 record. He scored the game-winners against Salem International and Penn State Mont Alto.

On Oct. 23, Pennsylvania College of Technology's SMART Girls will host 10th- and, for the first time, 11th-grade girls to encourage an ongoing interest in science and math. The college's Science and Math Applications in Real-World Technologies (SMART Girls) project was developed to counter the distressing tendency of girls to sidestep math and sciences as they enter adolescence.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host artist-in-residence Antonio Puri on campus Oct. 17-22. The gallery will exhibit his work, in a collection titled "I Am," Oct. 7 to Nov. 7.

Three Pennsylvania College of Technology students are among nine college students from across the nation who were selected to compete in the final bake-off of the third annual America's Best Raisin Bread Contest. Girls in seventh and eighth grades visited campus Saturday to partake in SMART (Science and Math Applications in Real-World Technologies) Girls activities.

The graduating college class of 2010, like the previous two graduating classes,is facing a challenging job market. According to a 2009 survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, only 19.7 percent of that year's graduates who applied for a job had one by the time they graduated. That's in contrast to 51 percentin 2008!

The Penn College women's volleyball team helped raise awareness of breast cancer in a weekend match that also honored its lone graduating senior. The team (with the help of Kristi L. Hammaker, health and fitness specialist; volleyball coach Bambi A. Hawkins and assistant coach Amber L.

In recognition of October's designation as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, PCToday in cooperation with Pennsylvania College of Technology's Information Technology Services will share weekly Cyberbriefs, each with a different theme related to information security.
