With all of the construction at Pennsylvania College of Technology over the past several years, it might be surprising that a special ceremony would be held to unveil a new wall. But as Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour noted, this is no "ordinary" wall.

The second annual "Monster Hut" competition is scheduled to take place this weekend. Four teams, each consisting of six students anda faculty adviser, will have from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon to build a pavilion on the grounds of one of Penn College's Residence Hall complexes. Teams may begin work at 3 p.m. Friday; final judging will occur at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Discussion of a timely topic and displays of student talent were among the highlights of Monday's School of Business and Computer Technologies Showcase and Advisory Committee meeting.

The members of the nursing faculty at Pennsylvania College of Technology have organized a 5K walk/run in memory of Allyson Wilgar-Jones, a colleague who died June 12, 2004, after a brief, intense battle with cancer. The 5K walk/run will not only honor Wilgar-Jones' memory but will also help fund a nursing scholarship in her name.

The Practical Nursing program at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro will host an open house Thursday, April 28, for those interested in pursuing a career in nursing. The 5-to-7-p.m.

About 70 children and their families attended Wednesday night's "Parent Potluck," the Children's Learning Center's traditional spring get-together. Donald R. Nibert's Wildlife Management class undertook its annual controlled burn on state game lands near Penn College's Earth Science Center on Wednesday, improving habitat for wildlife by killing invasive woody plants in designated grassland areas. It also provides practical experience for eventual control of wildfires and assists students in obtaining PA 135 firefighting license.

Chef John D. Folse, a worldwide ambassador for Cajun and Creole cooking, will return to Pennsylvania College of Technology to prepare the Distinguished Visiting Chef Series dinner on Saturday, April 9. The dinner, which costs $125 per guest, will begin at 7 p.m. at the College's Le Jeune Chef Restaurant. Net proceeds will be used for annual scholarship awards and endowed scholarship funds.
