A total of 190 students have petitioned to graduate in August from Pennsylvania College of Technology, which will hold a Summer Commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport. The student speaker will be Tim D. Case of Williamsport, who will receive an associate's degree in paramedic technology.

The president-elect of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics addressed primary- and secondary-school instructors on Monday at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Francis "Skip" Fennell was the keynote speaker for the Pennsylvania Governor's Institute for Mathematics Educators, which will continue on campus through Friday.

The Council of Eastern Forest Technician Schools will hold its 2005 annual meeting at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Schneebeli Earth Science Center next month, combining business with tours of the college's campuses and attractions throughout "Penn's Woods." The council, which represents schools offering two-year forest technology majors, will convene here from Aug. 3-6.

Pennsylvania College of Technology will host its fifth annual residential SMART Girls (Science and Math Applications in Real World Technologies for Girls) program July 10-13. Fifty girls are expected to participate in the residential program, which is for young women entering ninth and 10th grades. July 1 is the registration deadline.

"You're the Chef" production coordinators Christine L. Faherty and Jennifer R. McHenry, both pursuing degrees in culinary arts technology and dietary manager technology, demonstrated a few healthy cooking tips that cut the calorie count for a "You're the Chef" recipe in half.

On June 20, two Pennsylvania College of Technology students will help to educate the region about healthy eating options as part of the Million Pound Meltdown, an initiative to encourage every overweight person to seize control of his or her health.

A record crowd of 35 chimney sweeps from across the country is on campus for "Masonry: A Permanent Improvement," a weeklong class offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education and the Pennsylvania Guild of Professional Chimney Sweeps. This is the fourth year for the program, which is taught by Glenn R.

Saturday's Penn College/United Way "Trash to Treasure" Sale was another huge success. The event raised $1,400 (a more-than-25-percent increase over proceeds from last year) and provided the American Rescue Workers with truckloads of donations and food.

About 85 area high school students attended Wednesday's "Job for a Day," hosted by the plastics and polymer technology department. Students visited plastics laboratories, toured campus and made products on the college's mobile plastics lab. The lab, made up of smaller versions of Penn College's industry-standard equipment, traveled to several high schools this year.
