A student in the Athens Area School District is the latest recipient of an award from a scholarship established at Pennsylvania College of Technology in memory of the late wife of state Sen. Roger A. Madigan. A selection committee has awarded the 2008 Peggy Madigan Memorial Leadership Scholarship to Athens Area High School senior Jeffrey Wright.

Ten two-member teams of high schooljuniors and seniorstook part in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills contest Thursday to decide who moves on to national competition next month.

Roughly 55 participants hit the highway for the 13th annual Road Scholars Tour on Monday. The tour, held May 12-13, offers new and newly tenured Penn State faculty opportunities to learn about the university and Pennsylvania as they travel to several Penn State campuses, businesses and popular historic sites.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Searching for Creativity," a collection of works by Fred Gilmour, from May 16 to June 22. An opening reception for the exhibit will take place Tuesday, May 20, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., with a talk by the artist scheduled at 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday, April 27, the second Mixed Nuts Casino was enjoyed in The Madigan Library. The event was co-sponsored by the library, Student Activities and the Residence Hall Association. Mixed Nuts Casino is an event held in fall and spring semesters, before the ramp-up to finals, for students to come and enjoy themselves.

This month's Walk-It-Out event, in which about 225 participants collected pledges and strode around Penn College's Athletic Field, raised nearly $7,500 for the American Cancer Society. Michael J. Hersh, assistant director for programming in the Student Activities Office, said the event has raised $7,423 to date (and donations still are being accepted in hopes of hitting $8,000).

The School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies will host afree summer camp from Wednesday, June 11-Friday, June 13. This three-day camp will introduce students entering ninth and 10th grades to a variety of engineering technology careers.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of the college's Madigan Library, hosted an opening reception on Tuesday for its graphic design student portfolio exhibit, which runs through May 13. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

The 2007-08 Student Activities Awards Banquet, honoring the campus and community involvement of Pennsylvania College of Technology's committed student leaders, groups and faculty advisers, was held Wednesday night in the Bush Campus Center.

Renowned golfer Bob Charles will be the visiting pro at the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation's 22nd Annual Spring Golf Classic on May 5 at the Williamsport Country Club. Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship. Since its inception in 1987, the Golf Classic has secured funds for Penn College Foundation's Scholarship Aid Program.
