Numerous engineering design technology students at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently augmented their studies by obtaining industry certifications for computer aided drafting and design software programs. Students passed professional certification exams for AutoCAD 2014, Autodesk Inventor 2014 and SolidWorks.

Chalmer Van Horn, a retired faculty member who taught engineering drafting for nearly three decades at Pennsylvania College of Technology and its two predecessor institutions, has endowed two scholarships at the college, including one that honors the memory of his wife of 56 years, Ruth Ann.

Through a grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development, the Innovative Manufacturers’ Center partnered with Pennsylvania College of Technology to increase access to additive manufacturing among both educators and industry.

More than 900 Pennsylvania College of Technology students have petitioned to graduate at the completion of the Spring 2014 semester, and the college has scheduled three ceremonies May 16-17 for those who will march at commencement. All of the ceremonies will be held at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport. At 3 p.m.

Nine Pennsylvania College of Technology students from a variety of majors will compete at the National SkillsUSA Conference from June 23-28 in Kansas City, Mo., after winning gold medals at the state level.

The National Science Foundation is recognizing Pennsylvania College of Technology’s commitment to applied technology education with a $616,417 grant to benefit students.

Mitchell T. Black and Bryant M. Deller became friends after enrolling at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Today, the successful alumni are separated by companies and specialties. But their bond endures, thanks to a joint senior project that is powering a champion tractor in a professional pulling league.

Nine engineering design technology students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have earned industry certifications related to Autodesk, a leading producer of computer-aided drafting and design software. Four students passed the AutoCAD 2014 Certified Professional exam, two others passed the Inventor 2014 Certified Professional exam, and three additional students passed both exams.

Jonathan F. DeRoner, a computer aided product design student from Thurmont, Md., has been chosen as the Student of the Month at Pennsylvania College of Technology. DeRoner, scheduled to graduate in May 2015, is a Resident Assistant in The Village Apartments and is heavily involved in the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity and its volunteer and community work.

Meeting a middle school goal – and proving a guidance counselor wrong – Benjamin M. Schappel, a CAD student, peer mentor/tutor and the college’s first commuter assistant, developed Smorgas Board Co. Schappell soars above the Lifland Skatepark, between Williamsport’s Elm Park and Original Little League Field.
