Pennsylvania College of Technology’s computer aided drafting technology major recently was recertified by the American Design Drafting Association. ADDA is an organization for designers, drafters, architects, illustrators and technical artists.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology contingent at the recent National SkillsUSA Conference in Kansas City, Mo., produced four medalists: two second-place finishers and two third-place winners. Earning silver medals were Robert T. Berrier Jr., of Lewistown, a computer aided product design major who competed in Technical Drafting; and Aaron C.

An associate professor at Pennsylvania College of Technology authored a paper, “Transdisciplinary Approaches for Culturally Appropriate Boat Design,” that was published in the Work Based Learning e-Journal International. Thomas E. Ask’s paper presented findings from research conducted while he was a visiting professor of mechanical engineering at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2009.

  Students in the computer aided design majors at Pennsylvania College of Technology concluded a year's worth of design work and gained some appreciative comments from students outside the class when they tested their projects on a Penn College parking lot. The students designed pedal-powered, four-wheeled "quad cycles" with frames made of 1-inch PVC pipe.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member's volunteer time presenting "Brown Bag Lunch" sessions at Curtin Middle School resulted in both a hands-on manufacturing experience and a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. John M.

A group of students in Penn College's industrial and human factors design major found creative inspiration in the beautiful countryside at Rock Run this week. Students in the four-year major, offered through the college's School of Integrated Studies, focus on blending creativity, art and technology into product and system design.

Pennsylvania College of Technology employees Katherine A. Walker and Jeannette F. Carter were among presenters at Williamsport Area School District's first Millionaire Career Camp. According to Carol Watson, a middle school family and consumer sciences teacher in the district who helped to host the camp, the event was designed to introduce girls to careers in science and math fields.

Several Penn College departments visited the STEM Fair at Park Forest Middle School in State College on March 16. The fair provides an opportunity for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students to engage in activities and presentations that convey that science, technology, engineering and math are viable and real career paths they can take.

Katherine A. Walker, assistant professor of drafting and computer aided design at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently attained the credential of AutoCAD 2011 Certified Professional. Walker received the credential while attending Autodesk University 2010 in Las Vegas by passing the AutoCAD 2011 Certified Associate and Professional exams.
