David L. Evans, professor of biology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently appointed to the editorial board of BioScience. BioScience is the monthly, peer-reviewed journal of the American Institute of Biological Sciences. AIBS is an umbrella organization for around 200 biological-sciences societies.

Four first-grade classes from Lyter Elementary School in Montoursville visited labs at Penn College on March 23. The children enjoyed activities in graphic communications laboratories and in the School of Hospitality. They screen-printed T-shirts, twisted pretzels, learned to set tables and practice good table manners, and toured facilities.

Pennsylvania College of Technology students served as assistants to Pennsylvania chefs competing in the Pennsylvania Tourism and Lodging Association's "Pennsylvania Palate Competition." In a festively decorated Penn's Inn, a number of Penn College offices hosted a Tuesday "Happy Hour" gatheringto encourage students to make wise, safe decisions during their imminent Spring Break. Useful information was available about alcohol, safe sex, highway safety, judicious sun exposure and other considerations for students embarking on midsemester getaways.

The family of a former Pennsylvania College of Technology student who died in a traffic accident in 2005 has established a scholarship fund at the college in his memory. The Penn College Foundation has received a donation to establish an endowment for the Joshua R. Geary Memorial Scholarship. The endowment is expected to produce $2,000 in annual awards.

Pennsylvania College of Technology hosted its spring Visiting Chef Series from Feb. 17-19, welcoming Chef DeJuan Roy, executive chef of 95 Cordova at the historic Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine, Fla. While at the college, Roy worked alongside School of Hospitality students, sharing his expertise as they prepared a benefit dinner that concluded the stay.
