An international leader in residential and commercial tree care this week planted a sourwood at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center in honor of the April 16, 2007, shootings at Virginia Tech. Like VT, Penn College is among 28 institutions that participates in the Bartlett Tree Foundation, the educational scholarship arm of the Stamford, Conn.-based F.A. Bartlett Tree Expert Co.

Pennsylvania College of Technology cross-country coach Mike Paulhamus has confidence that his men's team will capture its sixth straight conference championship this weekend, and he is optimistic that his women's squad can win its first since 2004.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "," a collection of paintings by Brian Bishop, from Oct. 26 to Nov. 21. Bishop's paintings attempt to pinpoint the overlap between opposites such as the intangible and the tangible, the conceptual and the visceral, the forgotten and the remembered.

More than 170 employers were on hand at Penn College's Career Expo on Tuesday, offering students a close-up opportunity to say "Hello" to their potential tomorrows. "Another triumphant Career Expo!" said Erin Shultz, the college's coordinator of career development. "We had 173 employers registered, breaking last fall's record of 165.

Pennsylvania College of Technology and Penn State Cooperative Extension are collaborating to form the Marcellus Shale Education & Training Center, which will provide a wide variety of resources to the community and the oil-and-gas industry.

Jane J. Benedict, associate professor of nursing at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently reappointed to a second term on the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission's evaluation review panel. Benedict's second consecutive three-year term on the evaluation review panel will begin Jan. 1. The NLNAC is recognized by the U.S.

Statistics compiled by the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's soccer team during the regular season are impressive. It went undefeated (11-0 overall and 9-0 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference) and it outscored its opposition 40-4, including nine shutouts. But Enrique Castillo, in his third season as head coach, hopes that is just the beginning.

Invitations have been extended, and four Pennsylvania College of Technology athletic teams are headed to United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championships, according to Douglas Byerly, the college's director of athletics. This is the college's first year in the USCAA. The Penn College men's soccer team (11-0 overall record) will compete Oct.

Mack Trucks Inc. recently donated $36,000 worth of transmissions two Allison transmissions and a Mack unit to Penn College's Schneebeli Earth Science Center for student instruction. Mark E. Sones, instructor of diesel equipment technology, was able to secure the generous donations from Mack Trucks' Macungie facility when he heard they were available.
