Although roster numbers are down somewhat this year, the optimism for the coming women's softball season expressed by Pennsylvania College of Technology coach Roger Harris is as high as ever. The Wildcats, Harris' eighth edition, open their season Tuesday at Penn State Harrisburg. "Last fall and early this spring, when I started looking at who we had, I was optimistic," Harris said.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has scheduled an April 14 reception to honor current and former students, alumni, faculty and staff serving in the armed forces. During the event, which will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is accepting applications from students participating in study abroad programs during the Fall 2009 semester (or the 2009-10 academic year). The application, which is due April 7,is available online.

Thirteen students and two chaperones Joseph E. Leblanc, instructor of physics, and Joseph A. Tavani, industry internship specialist for the School of Transportation Technology spent Spring Break (March 6-14) on a study abroad program at the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudientes Superiores de Monterrey in Toluca, Mexico.

About three dozen pupils from Lyter Elementary School in the Montoursville Area School District this week toured the GraphicCommunications areaof the Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Center. Pennsylvania College of Technology's Children's Learning Center has received a Keystone Stars Merit Award of $49,570 for 2008-09. The center uses the funds for staff development, the purchase of toys and furniture for the children, accreditation-related expenses, special health and nutrition activities, and family events.

It wasn't pretty and both teams combined for 29 fouls, but, in the end, Penn College came out on top in Thursday's intramural basketball game against Lycoming College 41-38 in overtime. According to a game summary by Jeremy R. Bottorf, intramural assistant, Penn College trailed by as many as 13 before gathering itself and chipping away at the lead.

Penn College inducted its fourth group of Awesome Women Exemplars this week, honoring employees and students for their inspirational presence on campus. In accordance with this year's theme, "Women Taking the Lead in Saving the World," all students, faculty and staff were encouraged to nominate any Penn College female they admire.

Joe Simon, a junior guard-forward on the Penn College men's basketball team, has been awarded Penn State University Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honors. Simon, a business management student from Renovo, scored 382 points during the Wildcats' 18-12 season that included a sixth-place finish in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national tournament.
