On Friday, May 15, at 3 p.m., a ceremony will be held for graduating students from the School of Business, Arts & Sciences and the School of Nursing & Health Sciences.
On Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., ceremonies will be held for students from the School of Engineering Technologies, the college’s largest academic school. At 10 a.m., a ceremony will be held for the following School of Engineering Technologies divisions: Diesel Technology & Natural Resources, Materials Science & Engineering Technologies, and Transportation. The 1:30 p.m. ceremony will feature the divisions of Construction & Architectural Technologies and Industrial & Computer Technologies.
The student speakers for the three ceremonies will be: Miranda S. Mohammad, of Philadelphia, Friday, May 15; Lauren D. Peck, of South Williamsport, Saturday, May 16, 10 a.m.; and Giovanni A. Barbarossa, of Bridgeville, Saturday, May 16, 1:30 p.m.
Mohammad will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Student Nurses’ Association, and served as student senator for nursing in the Student Government Association. Mohammad has worked as a health assistant in College Health Services and was a nursing lab assistant. She has clinical experience with both UPMC and Geisinger in areas such as intensive care and emergency department, medical-surgical, psychiatry and community health, and pediatrics and obstetrics. She received a Bachelor of Arts in health studies from Temple University in 2022.
Peck will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in aviation maintenance technology and received an Associate of Applied Science in aviation technology in May 2025. She will also be presented the President’s Award and the Aviation Technology Faculty Award.
A Dean’s List student and member of the Penn College women’s tennis team, Peck worked as an aviation lab assistant for the college and served as an aviation technician intern for Corning Inc. Peck is a cyber operations noncommissioned officer in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, participated in numerous military education and leadership programs and received military awards including the Air Force Commendation Medal. She is a member of the SALUTE, Alpha Chi and Chi Alpha Sigma national honor societies.
Barbarossa will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in building automation engineering technology and received an Associate of Applied Science in on-site power generation in May 2024. He will also be presented the Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour Award for Leadership and Service to Penn College and the Building Automation Faculty Award.
A Dean’s List student, Barbarossa has served as president of the Diesel Performance Club and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He was an SGA senator for diesel technology & natural resources and a tutor for power generation, diesel technology, math and English.
Barbarossa has served as a controls intern for Southland Industries in Sterling, Va., a laborer and technician at Cheplic’s Packing Inc. in Finleyville, and an electric power generation intern for Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. in New Stanton.
The college will present a Distinguished Alumni Award to Jacob D. Fisher of Cogan Station. Fisher graduated magna cum laude from Penn College in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in welding & fabrication engineering technology. Since 2018, he’s been the plant manager for High Steel Structures LLC in Williamsport. Fisher has been instrumental in High Steel’s donation of over 400,000 pounds of scrap steel to the college’s welding program. He’s also championed tours of his facility for Penn College classes, and serves on the college’s President’s Leadership Council and Welding Advisory Committee.
