During the waning days of summer Camp ESCAPE, four participants volunteered to read to youngsters at the Children's Learning Center. Campers also took part in a baking project and toured the facility, which recently was moved to the Hager Lifelong Education Center. The tour gave past Children's Learning Center students an opportunity to see the new surroundings and catch up with former teachers.
Robin J. Gordon, a Pennsylvania College of Technology student enrolled in the dental hygiene: health policy and administration major, was awarded a scholarship from the American Dental Hygienists' Association Institute for Oral Health. Gordon, of Duryea, was named a recipient of the Crest Oral-B Laboratories Dental Hygiene Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year.
A Pennsylvania College of Technology student who died in June will be memorialized through a scholarship fund at the college. Pennsylvania College of Technology will expand its opportunities in welding education, thanks to a donation from Chesapeake Energy Corp. Chesapeake Energy presented Penn College with a check for $25,000 to purchase an engine-driven Lincoln welder, as well as a pipe beveling machine and associated supplies. Chesapeake also donated a supply of pipe for use in welding education.

The Marcellus Shale Education & Training Center has released a study assessing the direct workforce needs required to support Marcellus Shale development in Pennsylvania from 2011-14. The total number of direct jobs needed to keep pace with the growth of the industry is expected to range from 18,596 to 30,684, including 9,800 to 15,900 new positions.
Girls entering ninth, 10th and 11th grades stayed on Pennsylvania College of Technology's main campus July 10-14 to participate in the annual SMART Girls residential activity. The girls participated in workshops on campus to enhance their knowledge of nontraditional careers – and the usefulness of science and mathematics courses in those potential professions.
Dementro "Debo" Powell has begun work as the assistant director of student activities for diversity and cultural life at Pennsylvania College of Technology. "Debo has made an excellent addition to our Student Activities staff,"said Kimberly R. Cassel, director of student activities.
