Penn College Students in Free Enterprise and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lycoming County are working together to help raise awareness of the local need for mentors. The relationship was launched May 3, with the college's SIFE chapter donating $50 to Big Brothers Big Sisters, and there are plans to continue working together with fundraising and educational efforts.

Students in Penn College's environmental technology program teamed up with fourth-graders from Sheridan Elementary School to study the benethic organisms of Millers Run in Williamsport on Wednesday. Millers Run is a small stream that flows through Bruce Henry Park in Loyalsock Township. not far from the pupils' school.

David J. Slezak, 20, a Penn College student from Loyalhanna, Westmoreland County, has died from injuries suffered in an auto accident Monday in White Deer Township, Union County. Members of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society student chapter traveled recently to a quiz-bowl competition in Baltimore, where they showed their knowledge against industry representatives. The Student Bowl was held during the annual ISA District 2 Leadership Conference, April 13-14.

Already a contender for the 2008 U.S. Olympic boxing team, a forest technology major at Penn College has added "state champion" to his belt. On April 21, Anthony J. Tettis, of Ridgway, defeated Philadelphia's Paul Koon 2006 Pennsylvania champion during a fourth-round knockout in the state Golden Gloves Championship at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The 2006-07 Student Activities Awards Banquet, recognizing and rewarding Pennsylvania College of Technology's most outstanding and involved students, organizations and faculty mentors, was held in Penn's Inn on Wednesday night. The evening included awarding of the first Student Leader Legacy Scholarship, created and funded by students to continue the tradition of campus leadership.

Mass media communication students at Pennsylvania College of Technology created public-service announcements for area nonprofit agencies that began airing locally on cable television in early April. Comcast, the cable-service provider for the Williamsport area, has donated airtime to run the PSAs on its cable stations. The first PSA began airing this month; each will run for about three weeks.
