Early childhood education faculty and staff celebrated student achievement on Wednesday, April 27, at the annual Early Childhood Practicum banquet. Students in the School of Hospitality's Introductory Baking course designed and made cupcakes to help Williamsport celebrate the 10th anniversary of its First Friday Art Town events, a monthly exposition and celebration of the arts downtown and in other parts of the city.

The on-campus and off-campus activities of an applied human services student from Lewistown have resulted in her selection as the 2011-12 recipient of the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Ashley M. Stuck, who will be entering her junior year at Penn College this fall, was chosen from among numerous applicants for the $1,000 scholarship award.

A class project supported by alumni donations has resulted in a new scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology. One of the options offered to alumni when they receive their annual request for donations to Penn College is to direct their gifts to one of Penn College's eight academic schools.

Continuing a tradition of building positive relationships within the community, the Penn College Construction Association recently hosted a hands-on activity for two Girl Scout troops from the Jersey Shore area. Sixteen Scouts (a combination of Juniors and Brownies from Troops 262 and 61517) visited campus April 18.

Year-end awards have been announced by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Residence Life Office, which also selected April's most notable students and programs from within campus housing complexes. Anthony R. Grubbs, of Irwin, was honored as Resident Assistant of the Year; Jonathan M. Probst as Rising Star of the Year; "Spend a Day in Their Shoes," organized by Jocelyn E.

"Design: 2011," a portfolio exhibition by senior graphic graphic majors, officially opened Friday in The Gallery at Penn College.

An annual reception in recognition of scholarship donors and the students who benefitfrom their generosity, featuring a Tropical Delights pastry buffet prepared by School of Hospitality students, was held Sunday afternoon in the Keystone Dining Room.

Human services students at Penn College presented an Assistive Technology Expo in the Field House on Friday, showcasing a variety of services and equipment to aid people with disabilities. The event was organized by five students in the Technology and Human Services course, taught by LaRue R. Reese, assistant professor of human services and social sciences.

Three commencement ceremonies will be offered May 13-14 at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport for nearly 950 students who have petitioned to graduate from Pennsylvania College of Technology following the Spring 2011 semester. At 3 p.m. on Friday, May 13, a ceremony will be offered for students from the schools of Construction and Design Technologies and Health Sciences.
