A team of Pennsylvania College of Technology students recently won the 29th Precision Heavy Construction Equipment Rodeo, the third straight year in which overall honors were retained by the host institution. The crowd-pleasing competition, which drew 52 participants from five schools in Pennsylvania and New York, was held Oct. 23 during a collegewide Open House.

A student design brought to flourishing life by a Landscape Operations class from Pennsylvania College of Technology is being considered a memorial garden at First United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Two Pennsylvania College of Technology students each have been awarded $2,500 scholarships from the Electrical Generating Systems Association. Among the dozen David I. Coren Memorial Scholarship winners for the 2011-12 year are Nathan W. Johnson, of Annville; and Rory K. Kania, of Hanover Township, Luzerne County.

Combining fun, stress relief and seasonal comfort food, the Inter-Fraternity Council sponsored a "Pumpkin Bust" on the Thompson Professional Development Center lawn Tuesday. Team members lobbed pumpkins to one another in a variation on that old standby, the "egg toss," aiming for the greatest distance with the least mess.

Three Pennsylvania College of Technology students received scholarships for 2011-12 from the Pennsylvania Land Surveyors' Foundation. The foundation presented 10 scholarships totaling $17,000. Melissa D. Thorp, a Penn College surveying technology student from Curwensville, was ranked in first place among the recipients, garnering a $3,000 scholarship award.

About 50 children of Penn College students, employees and alumni attended Wednesday's "Trick-or-Treat Night at The Village," co-sponsored by the Alumni Relations and Residence Life offices.

The Information Technology Living-Learning Community in Dauphin Hall hosted a Wednesday program on virtualization, presented by Sandra Gorka, associate professor of computer science. Students installed the Linux operating system onto a virtual drive of their personal computers using Oracle's VirtualBox software.
