Celebrating their inner superheroes, students in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s surgical technology major are joining hospitals and colleges throughout the country in observing National Surgical Technologists Week, Sept. 15-21. National Surgical Technologists Week is a promotional event of the Association of Surgical Technologists to celebrate those who work in the field.

Two of five $5,000 scholarships recently awarded by the Oil and Energy Service Professionals and its co-sponsors have gone to Pennsylvania College of Technology students. The scholarships were presented to Peter W. Bennett, of Sea Cliff, New York, and Ian H. West, of Hummelstown.

The Society of Plastics Engineers Foundation recognized the excellence of two Pennsylvania College of Technology students by awarding them scholarships. Shawnee M. Mills, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Lucas S. Poche, of Lewistown, both majoring in plastics and polymer engineering technology, earned the scholarships from the society dedicated to advancing the plastics profession worldwide.

As the opening weeks of the semester settle into a collegiate pattern, there's at least one thing that won't ever become routine: the variety of activities and opportunities for Penn College students.

ACH119 students visit Centre Concrete on Fairfield Road, Montoursville, for a much-appreciated tour. Students in Rob A. Wozniak's Building Materials I class recently visited Centre Concrete in Montoursville, valuably leaving the classroom to reinforce topics learned on campus.

State Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster), the second-highest ranking member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, visited Penn College on Thursday. Cutler, serving his first term as majority leader, was accompanied on the tour – which took in a number of instructional areas of main campus – by Jacob G. Smeltz, his chief of staff, as well as two members of the college's board of directors: Sen. Gene Yaw, chair, and Rep. Garth Everett.

The corporate generosity that provides Pennsylvania College of Technology students with up-to-date tools befitting a campuswide pool of “tomorrow makers” lives on in an equipment loan from Volvo Construction Equipment, facilitated by Highway Equipment & Supply Co.
