Pennsylvania College of Technology’s United Campus Ministry and Cheer Team recently teamed up for their spring semester fundraiser and donated all of their profits to a local nonprofit, Family Promise of Lycoming County. UCM and the Cheer Team sold 16 boxes (96 bars) of chocolate and donated $800 in goods and necessities to Family Promise, a homeless ministry.
More than 100 dental professionals attended a continuing education event hosted on campus on Friday by Penn College’s Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association. The seminar, titled “Infection Control in Practice,” was led by registered dental hygienist Angelina Marinucci, a clinical education manager for Hu-Friedy Mfg. Co., a leader in dental instrument manufacturing, infection prevention and instrument reprocessing.
A new fitness area is available to Pennsylvania College of Technology students – the Flexible Space. Located in the Fitness Center on the third floor of Bush Campus Center, the Flexible Space is a separate room for doing sit-ups, stretches or light weightlifting. A recent grand opening drew more than 65 attendees and a round of applause.
Students in Penn College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter recently convened to prepare 144 plush monkey toys for children experiencing scary or difficult situations. The monkeys are provided by Aly’s Monkey Movement, a local nonprofit started by the then 10-year-old daughter of nursing student Kristy L. Creasy, who introduced the project to PTK members and provided instruction.
January has been jumpin' on Pennsylvania College of Technology's campus despite wintry weather, and students are taking advantage of many evening opportunities to "chill" (and warm up).
"Glow With the Flow," hosted Friday night by the Office of Student Engagement, allowed participants to bend, stretch, revitalize mind and body ... and personalize a yoga mat with glow-in-the-dark artistry.
This week's Wildcat Wednesday instilled Penn College Pride, then used that spirit to promote Thursday's campus visit by the Piscataway Nation Singers & Dancers.
Halloween arrived early at Penn College, where assorted members of the Wildcat "Boo!" crew satisfied sweet-tooth dreams and opened the door to their darker counterparts. Ushering in the shadowy midnight hour were Student Engagement's Fall Fest on Oct. 21 (moved indoors due to foul weather) and Wildcat Costume Party on Oct. 28, the American Welding Society student chapter's ghastly (and annually anticipated) Arc Asylum, and Residence Life's beloved Trick or Treat Night at The Village on Oct. 29.
Penn College observed "Purple Thursday" this week, honoring October's designation as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The campus community was encouraged by the Office of Student Engagement to advocate for survivors by wearing purple clothing and/or ribbons and by sharing messages of hope through a vigil at "The Rock." A table inside the Bush Campus Center provided resources, including information on recognizing and reporting domestic violence.
Students eased into Fall Break with a relaxing Wildcat Wednesday at "The Rock" this past week, spray-painting ceramic pumpkins as a timely takeaway. The popular series, an unpredictable variety of activities hosted by the Student Engagement Office, will resume Oct. 18.
