She holds a Master of Education in educational leadership (emphasis in higher education administration) and a Bachelor of Arts in child development (K-six), both from Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, Virginia. She is a graduate of Leadership Lycoming and subsequently served on its Operating and Curriculum committees.

Hummel previously served as a general member of the Association of Student Conduct Code Administrators and MACUHO (Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers), for which she also served as a Programming Committee member.
She is the recipient of the Pivot Award from Lycoming College (May 2022), a special recognition awarded to an employee who has made a significant contribution to the college’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Blue & Gold Leadership Award (May 2019), given to an employee who exemplifies significant leadership skills and characteristics.
