Pennsylvania College of Technology alumni are using their skills in a variety of ways to help others during the global pandemic, including a graphic design alumna living and working in England. Eliza R. Whyman, ’17, a designer at MediaCom in Manchester, designed and illustrated six visually appealing and puzzling brain teasers for Brits to enjoy during shelter-in-place orders.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic is upending the norm in most sectors of society, students and faculty in Pennsylvania College of Technology's emergency management and homeland security major remain steady, observant and engaged in their education as they watch the historic crisis unfold and their career field move to center stage.

In keeping with other creative adjustments being made during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pennsylvania College of Technology’s annual graphic design student exhibit has moved online for the first time in its 12-year history. Creatively adapting to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pennsylvania College of Technology graphic design student chapter of AIGA has launched tutorials on YouTube and are hosting graphic design alumni Zoom talks.

A memorial service will be scheduled for Irwin H. Siegel, 2005 recipient of Penn College's Master Teacher Award and a retired professor of business administration/business law, who died Sunday, April 12, at age 66. Siegel, a faculty member from 1998 through the 2007-08 academic year, also was honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2001.

This semester’s Penn College ceramics students missed out on making bowls for Williamsport’s annual Soup and a Bowl event, an important fundraiser for the Central PA Food Bank. The campus community can help those students leave their legacy, however, by filling a virtual empty bowl with an online shopping trip to the food bank by May 8.

Chef Charles R. Niedermyer II, instructor of baking and pastry arts/culinary arts, was interviewed for the cover story in the March/April issue of Bake magazine. A two-time Penn College alumnus and a faculty member since 2005, Niedermyer was among the professionals assessing what the future holds for desserts and pastries.
