Penn College is well-represented on a number of fronts at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, under way through Saturday in Harrisburg. Special events specific to a variety of Penn College academic schools are interspersed throughout the popular eight-day event, and the Admissions and Alumni Relations offices are on hand daily. Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented Todd J. Fox, executive director of Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity, with an Alumni Citizenship/Humanitarian Award.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented Outstanding Varsity Athletic Alumni Awards to Chad L. Karstetter, of Salona, and Katlyn D. Stupar, of State College. The honors were bestowed Oct. 11 during Homecoming 2008 festivities at the college.

Penn College alumnus Nathaniel L. Baum, who holds degrees in landscape/nursery technology (2003) and technology management (2005), is featured in a recent article in the (Lancaster) Sunday News. The article touts the energy- and cost-saving benefits of a reflective roof coating at the Lititz headquarters of Susquehanna Bancshares Inc., where Baum is facility supervisor.

The Student Activities Office is organizing a new community-service project this winter called Operation Snowflake. Student organizations will sign up to sponsor a week during the winter months. If it snows during that week, the organization's members will shovel the walks of elderly citizens and alumni in the area.

"Show Your Colors" is the theme for this year's Homecoming celebration at Pennsylvania College of Technology; a variety of activities from a comedian and a car show to athletic events and networking receptions are scheduled from Oct. 8-12. The public is invited to a number of Homecoming events: a flag football game at 9 p.m. Oct. 8 on the Athletic Field; a women's volleyball game at 7 p.m. Oct.

This year's homecoming at Penn College will be held Oct. 8-12, and is going to be bigger and better than ever. New events for this year include a bread and pastry sale, a concert featuring The States, and a carnival. For a complete list of events and details, please visit online.

A college alumnus and former administrator has been chosen as president of the Technical College of the Lowcountry, Beaufort, S.C. Thomas C. Leitzel earned an associate degree in business management at Williamsport Area Community College (a Penn College forerunner) in 1976.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented Mentorship Awards to two Baltimore-based companies and their representatives: Karl Quinn/Alban Tractor Co. Inc. and David A. Potts/ The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. The Mentorship Award recognizes alumni and/or businesses that have made significant or ongoing contributions to the education and development of Penn College students.
