Pennsylvania College of Technology's men's cross country team has had more than its share of success over the years, but, onOct. 6, it reached a new high. Paced by sophomore Greg Kammerle (Willow Grove), the Wildcats won their first nonconference meet in 20 seasons. Kammerle covered the 4.9-mile course in 28:30. A year ago, he set a record on the course when he finished in 28:15.

Members of "The Bear Bunch," a class of 3- and 4-year-olds from the Children's Learning Center, were treated to a tour of the Victorian House on Friday morning. The youngsters frequently pass by the landmark building on their walks around campus, prompting one of them to ask if they could be invited inside.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors on Thursday approved the Stage X Building Program (which includes construction of new student housing and three major renovation projects), authorized a $124,990,000 bond issue to pay for Stage X and to refinance previous bond issues, and approved a resolution to return $250,000 in unanticipated state-appropriation funds to students.

A team of students won the inaugural kickball game against Penn College staff Wednesday night. The students, led by Gavin Mock's 3-run home run, rallied to beat the staff team, 12-5. Staff caught the student team off-guard and scored 4 runs in the first inning to open up a lead. The students got one back in the bottom half of the first and scored 3 more in the second to tie the game.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Board of Directors has approved the college's Stage X Building Program − a plan calling for construction of additional student housing and extensive renovations at several facilities on the main campus.

Pennsylvania College of Technology did not expect − or budget for − an increase in its 2007-08 state appropriation, but when legislators delivered an additional $250,000, the college's administration and board of directors vowed to return the funds to students who enroll for the Spring 2008 semester.

Enrollment at Pennsylvania College of Technology has increased again, with a total of 6,682 students (an all-time high) enrolled for the Fall 2007 semester. The college's Fall 2007 Preliminary (Third Week) Enrollment Report shows a 1.7-percent increase in total enrollment from Fall 2006, when 6,569 students were enrolled.

To enhance the safety and welfare of its students and employees, Pennsylvania College of Technology will begin conducting background checks for all full-time faculty and staff positions − as well as a number of other job categories − as part of its hiring process. Background checks will be required for all new job searches that begin on or after Oct. 29.
