Earlier this month, EarthSmart Club members did their semiannual road cleanup along their 2-mile stretch of Northway Road. After working for an hour and a half, the group had filled up several garbage bags with discarded cans and newspaper and then headed to a local restaurant for pizza.

On Thursday, Penn College hosted a talk for area health-care providers by State Secretary of Health Dr. Calvin B. Johnson, who addressed issues of health literacy. The event was sponsored by the Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition health literacy task force to stress the importance of health literacy in health care.

Nursing students Samantha M. Carey, of Montoursville (center), and Angela M. Kubarek, of Benton, staffed an informational display in the Bush Campus Center on Wednesday during an ongoing observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Among those stopping by their table was Andrew S. Wisner, president of the Student Government Association and a welding technology major from York.

The American Red Cross and Student Health Services are "very thankful for the giving attitude of the Penn College community" for the continued success at Wednesday's Bloodmobile in the Bush Campus Center, where 170 pints were collected exactly fulfilling theday's goal. There were 63 first-time donors, and every pint goes toward saving another life.
