As construction crews keep pace for this fall's occupancy of Dauphin Hall, Penn College's newest student-housing complex, Andrew M. Montoursville Area High School took home the overall trophy following the recent Plastics Experience, hosted by students and faculty in Penn College's plastics and polymer engineering technology major.

Fourteen Pennsylvania College of Technology spring-sports athletes have received postseason honors in baseball, softball and archery. BaseballSenior pitcher Mark Shaffer (Hanover) and sophomore shortstop Tom Hughes (Easton) were named Penn State University Athletic Conference First Team All-Stars and senior outfielder Ryan Weachock (Pottsville) was named to the Second Team.

The sounds of power tools, family interaction and civic good will filled Penn College's masonry laboratory Saturday, as drivers and their "pit crews" constructed the 52 cars that will race down Market Street when the Soap Box Derby one of the most-anticipated community events in years returns to Williamsport on July 3.

The Gallery at Penn College held an official opening Thursday for "The Art of Education ," an exhibit of work by art teachers in K-12 schools in northcentral Pennsylvania. Through June 27, 31 teachers will exhibit their work during the Madigan Library gallery's tribute to the talented educators who inspire creativity and instill an appreciation for art in young people.

A Hughesville High School senior is the recipient of the 2010 Peggy Madigan Memorial Leadership Scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Kristina Kline, of Muncy, was presented with the scholarship award named in honor of the late wife of former state Sen. Roger A. Madigan at a Thursday ceremony in the college Field House.

Megan Schmid, an ornamental horticulture: landscape technology major interning at the School House Garden Market in Bloomsburg, was interviewed for this weekend's episode of "Home & Backyard" on WNEP-TV. Scmid, of Danville,who servesas the assistant to the greenhouse manager, will be included in the "Your Big Backyard" segment of the program, which airs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Channel 16.

Five Pennsylvania College of Technology students pursuing bachelor's degrees in dental hygiene: health policy and administration provided dental care and education to the 105 students attending La Escuelita The Little School in Managua, Nicaragua, during the college's Spring Break.

The coordinator of the Williamsport/Lycoming Keystone Innovation Zone delivered a presentation at the recent NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership National Conference in Orlando, Fla. Katie C. Bell's May 4 workshop, "Greenovation: A Unique Approach Encouraging Green Product Development," offered the opportunity for IMC Inc.

Dawn M. Moore, disability services specialist at Penn College, was among the graduates at George Washington University when Michelle Obama delivered the commencement address Sunday. Last fall, the first lady promised students she would speak if they completed 100,000 hours of community service. That goal was exceeded by nearly 70,000 hours, and Mrs. Obama honored her pledge.
