Pennsylvania College of Technology presented its Alumni Humanitarian Award to Nathaniel H. Lyon during the Fall 2025 Commencement ceremony, held Dec. 20 at the Journey Bank Community Arts Center in Williamsport.
Lyon, of Elizabethtown, graduated from Penn College in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in welding & fabrication engineering technology and an associate degree in welding technology.

Since 2023, he’s been a welding trades teacher and mentor at Milton Hershey School. The private boarding school based in Hershey serves students – often from disadvantaged backgrounds – from prekindergarten through 12th grade. Lyon recently earned certified welding inspector certification through the American Welding Society.
He volunteers as a co-leader of Adullam’s Cave Boys Club, a nonprofit program that offers mentorship to boys and young men through academics, spiritual training and life skills.
A strong commitment to both his trade and community was evident during Lyon’s time at Penn College. A Dean’s List student, he was a resident assistant and new student orientation leader; a tutor for welding, physics and math; an instructor who taught welding safety in the Dr. Welch Workshop: A Makerspace at Penn College; president of Campus Crusade for Christ; and an active member of the college’s student chapter of the American Welding Society. He also volunteered at Firetree Place, a nonprofit community center in Williamsport.
Prior to his role at Milton Hershey School, Lyon worked as a welder/fabricator at SWF Industrial Inc. and an engineer for Voith Hydro Inc. He also was a substitute teacher in the York City School District and a part-time adult-education welding instructor for the York County School of Technology.
Lyon participates in Penn College’s Alumni Tomorrow Maker’s program, which connects graduates with current students.
The Alumni Humanitarian Award is bestowed upon graduates of Penn College who have provided distinguished community or volunteer service and presented themselves as dedicated and loyal alumni.
