The Children's Learning Center Bear Bunch enjoyed a visit to the welding lab, arranged and led by Kerri Ann Zacker. Zacker visited the Bears room Wednesday morning to show her tools of the welding trade and talk about items that are welded. Three heating, ventilation and air conditioning students at Pennsylvania College of Technology were awarded $2,000 scholarships at a recent convention of the National Association of Oil Heat Service Managers in Hartford, Conn. Hannah E. McCracken, a graduate of Williamsport Area High School, and Kimberly L. Daley, a graduate of Cherry Valley High School in Springfield, have been named Penn College's "co-Student-Athletes of the Week" for Sept. 7-14. Both strikers on the women's soccer team, McCracken is a junior technology management student and Daley is a freshman architectural technology student.
Actor Michael Keaton − best known for his rolesin "Beetlejuice" and the two Tim Burton-directed "Batman" movies − and two Williamsport residents will be among the recipients of the Governor's Awards for the Arts, announced at the Community Arts Center on Tuesday by Judge Marjorie O. Rendell, first lady of Pennsylvania. The arts center will be the venue for the Nov.
The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "New Paintings," a collection of works by Judith Kalina, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 16. Kalina lives and works in New York City.
Eleven culinary arts and systems and baking and pastry arts students departed for Louisville, Ky., Tuesday morning to help prepare food for some of the more than 30,000 guests who have bought tickets for the Ryder Cup golf tournament. The students were accompanied by Chef Paul Mach, assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts.
At the beginning of the year, coach Chet Schuman said he had a very talented group of golfers and that was evident Monday when they played at Penn National, the home course for Penn State Mont Alto. "We were a player short and had an alternate team roster and played with a great deal of character and pride to preserve our winning streak," the coach said.
