The current issue of American Jails features an article written by Pennsylvania College of Technology student Brandon J. Close and Jeremiah C. Gee, assessment coordinator for the college's School of Integrated Studies. The article details the inception and development of Penn College's Collegiate Association for County Correctional Education, a student organization founded by Close in Fall 2008.

William E. Mack has been appointed assistant dean of industrial and engineering technologies at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Mack, who began his duties Feb. 2, comes to Penn College from Harrisburg Area Community College, where he most recently served as professor and coordinator for the Community Center for Technology and the Arts.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member recently presented two papers at the Autodesk University conference held in Las Vegas. Jeffrey D. Mather, assistant professor of drafting and computer aided design, presented "Working With Neutral Format Surface and Solid Models in Autodesk Inventor," one of 11 Autodesk Inventor "PowerTrack" sessions that were offered during the conference.

Effective Monday, Feb. 9, the exterior doors behind the gymnasium from the Hager Lifelong Education Center lobby will be closed. Access to the rear doors of the gymnasium from the LEC lobby will be maintained. In addition, demolition in the first-floor area of the former library will commence early next week.

"Introduction to Steel-Joist Products," a free presentation by a civil engineer, will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium. The presenter will be Kevin W. Smith, engineering manager of CMC Joist and Deck, New Columbia, a division of Commercial Metals Co.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Beauty, Vulnerability and Inevitability," a collection of paintings by Ed Wong-Ligda, from Feb. 10 to March 6. This exhibit comprises three separate but related bodies of work that examine beauty, vulnerability and the inevitability of change.

A report on Penn College's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance partnership with The Salvation Army aired Tuesday evening on WNEP's Newswatch 16. Jim Hamill from the ABC affiliate's Central Pennsylvania newsroom was on campus and at The Salvation Army's downtown Williamsport headquarters compiling his report.

A human resources analyst and recruiter for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry was on campus Tuesday to take the mystery out of the application process for state jobs.
