Doubling off-campus police patrols, encouraging faculty and staff vigilance, and using the eyes and ears of the student body to report suspicious activities are among the weapons Pennsylvania College of Technology will use to support community safety in the wake of recent crimes in the city. An estimated 750 or more students turned out for a Tuesday afternoon meeting to discuss safety.
Pennsylvania College of Technology's nursing program has received grants from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation and Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania to help students pay for college expenses. The nursing program was awarded $149,000 from PHEF for the 2007-08 academic year.

Robert C. Dietrich has been named executive director of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation. Established in 1981, the foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to secure financial and other support for the college. The foundation's activities include providing student scholarships and other financial assistance, fundraising, and general promotion of the college.
The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Planes of Aspiration," an exhibit of paintings by Maureen Drdak, from Jan. 15 to Feb. 12. An opening reception for the exhibit will take place Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., with a talk by the artist scheduled at 5:30 p.m.
A photo of The Madigan Library was selected by the editors of Library Journal for inclusion in its annual architectural issue published in December. In its 132nd year of publication, Library Journal is the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field.
The Practical Nursing Program at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus recently held a graduation ceremony for 22 students. After a monthlong semester and holiday break, Pennsylvania College of Technology women's and men's basketball teams return to action Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, against NCAA Division III opponents. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the Penn College women, 7-2 overall, will face crosstown rival Lycoming College at Lycoming's Lamade Gymnasium.
