Art and music combine in a fitting arena on Feb. 24 with an afternoon of classical guitar music to kick off "In Perfect Harmony: The Concert Series in The Gallery at Penn College." Alphonse Ciaccio, a 1993 alumnus of Pennsylvania College of Technology, presents the series' inaugural concert in the gallery, on the third floor of the college's Madigan Library, at 2 p.m.
Pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb has established a scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology to support students in the college's aviation maintenance technology bachelor-degree major. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Scholarship Fund will make annual awards of $2,500 each to two students.
"Public Spaces of Europe," an exhibit of digital photographs by Gary Mesa-Gaido, will be displayed through March 14 in the Gallery at Penn College (Madigan Library, third floor). An opening reception was held Tuesday. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. All exhibits are free and open to the public.
Residents of the Rose Street Apartments enjoyed free pizza, drinks and snacks (supplied by Residence Life) and learned about issues facing college students who choose to be sexually active at a "Pizza and Condoms Party" held during Sexual Awareness Week. Resident Assistant Melissa Dobson created a unique way to meet her residents and inform them of the dangers of irresponsible sexual activity.
David L. Evans, professor of biology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was selected for inclusion in the 2009 Edition of "Who's Who in America." Scheduled for publication in October 2008, it marks the 63rd edition of the "original" Who's Who in America, first published in 1899 by A.N. Marquis.
A Bloomsburg couple has established a scholarship fund that encourages students in the Mount Carmel Area School District to attend Pennsylvania College of Technology. Edward and Sharon Madalis recently signed the agreement establishing the fund in memory of Edward's parents, Walter and Nancy Madalis. "My parents placed a strong emphasis on the value of continued education," Edward Madalis said.
Before the archery season began, Pennsylvania College of Technology coach Chad Karstetter spoke of his team's potential. It hasn't taken long for that potential to show itself. After two competitions, Karstetter says his Wildcats are right where he wants them to be. "So far, I'm very pleased.
Ashley A. McClain, 18, of Bush Hollow, a student in the office information technology program in the School of Business and Computer Technologies, died Thursday, Feb. 14, in Snow Shoe Township, Centre County. A memorial brick will be placed in her honor in the Remembrance Garden, and the Penn College flags will be lowered to half-staff.
