Mount Carmel Area School District is using Pennsylvania College of Technology videos to complement the programming offered on its high school’s student-operated television station, WKMCTV. Channel 13 on Service Electric Cable, WKMCTV serves Mount Carmel, Shamokin, Southern Columbia and parts of Central Columbia, Bloomsburg and Line Mountain school districts.

On March 6, the public is invited to view “Destination Wedding”-themed cakes as part of a cake competition for Pennsylvania College of Technology students. Eight students enrolled in an advanced-level cake decorating course spend about 18 hours of class time on their three-tiered, fondant-covered cakes.

A scholarship has been established by Volkswagen of America Inc. and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation/Automotive Youth Educational System in memory of a Pennsylvania College of Technology automotive technology alumnus. Zachary C. Teter, who graduated in August 2011 with an associate degree, was killed in a March 19 vehicle accident in Schuylkill County.

Pennsylvania College of Technology will host a Science Festival on Tuesday, Feb. 25, sponsored by the college and Technology Futures of North Central PA. The event, scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Penn College Field House, provides a variety of fun, hands-on math and science demonstrations geared toward elementary and middle school students, as well as their families.

Three Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers won individual Penn State University Athletic Conference Championships and the team placed third during action Feb. 9 at Penn State’s Rec Hall. Also last week, the men’s and women’s basketball teams closed out their seasons.

An Outdoor Expo – featuring a number of vendors, live animals, chain-saw demonstrations and a jerky competition – will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Field House. Sponsored by the college’s Student Activities Office, the family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
