Pennsylvania College of Technology recently presented student achievement awards to its May 2009 graduates. More than 900 students petitioned to graduate at the conclusion of the Spring 2009 semester. Three commencement ceremonies were held May 15-16 at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport.

The legacy of Kenneth E. Carl who was an instructor when Pennsylvania College of Technology forerunner Williamsport Technical Institute was founded and later became its director and the first president of Williamsport Area Community College continues with the graduation of his grandson from the college on May 15. Pennsylvania College of Technology honored three faculty members with Distinguished Teaching Awards at Spring Commencement ceremonies held May 16 at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport. The college's highest level of recognition for a faculty member − the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award − was presented to Christine M. Kessler, assistant professor of physician assistant.

The legacy of a well-respected assistant professor of architecture technology will continue at Pennsylvania College of Technology through a new scholarship fund established in his memory. The executors of the estate of the late William H. Ealer have signed an agreement with the Penn College Foundation establishing the William H. Ealer Scholarship Fund.

Five Penn College baseball and softball players received postseason honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. In baseball, senior Devon Liquori (Hawley) and sophomore Mark Shaffer (Hanover) were named to the first team; senior Phil Woodring (Waynesboro) received honorable mention.

More than 50 original works of art by dozens of Penn College employees are on exhibit in the Gallery at Penn College through June 30. The works include paintings, photographs, wood, ceramics, mixed media, fiber and metal. An opening reception was held Thursday in the gallery, on the third floor of Madigan Library, to showcase the magnificent manifestation of the employees' creative spirit.

The New Choices/New Options program in Career Services is recruiting single parents, single pregnant women and displaced homemakers. NC/NO offers career-development services including (but not limited to) resume-writing, interview skills, stress management, goal-setting and assessments. Program completers are eligible to apply for tuition assistance and/or textbook-cost reimbursement.
