A trio of Pennsylvania College of Technology students captured medals in the 36th annual SkillsUSA-VICA national championships held recently in Kansas City, Mo. Two Penn College students finished second in their events and another finished third.

Michael V. Knorr, an incoming freshman enrolled for the fall semester at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Knorr, of Gilberton, is enrolled in the Computer-Aided Drafting Technology associate-degree program.

Christopher O. Juden, a student in the Physician Assistant program at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been appointed Northeast Regional Communications Representative for the Student Association of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Eight incoming freshmen at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been chosen to receive Presidential Scholarships, an honor awarded for academic excellence and service to school and community. The Presidential Scholars, who were among the top students at their respective high schools, each will receive a $2,500 scholarship for the 2000-01 academic year.

Matthew W. Sharpless, a Forest Technology student who received his associate of applied science degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology in May, has won the Bailey/Brunton Award for Outstanding Achievement. For winning the honor, Sharpless, of Huntingdon, receives a Brunton Pocket Transit (with a retail value of $289) and a commemorative plaque.

All 23 Class of 1999 graduates in the Occupational Therapy Assistant major at Pennsylvania College of Technology who took the national certification exam in March have passed, marking the 11th consecutive time that students in the associate's-degree program registered a 100-percent pass rate.

With their prolific ability to control insect pests, bats make good neighbors. As houseguests, though, the diminutive nocturnal predators quickly wear out their welcome.

A team of students from Pennsylvania College of Technology won a recent district competition sponsored by the ISA, the international society for measurement and control. The students' winning performance at the competition, which was held at Research Triangle Park, N.C, enables them to participate in the international ISA event, which will be held Monday, Aug. 21, in New Orleans.
